Being in business, working with businesses I always enjoy finding success stories or marketing tips that I can pass on to my clients. Just recently, while doing an annual website review with one of our clients. To our amazement, this client always has different testimonials that we continually change out on their website each month. So, I asked our client, how do you do it? How do you get your clients to submit testimonials? And here is what I found out.

After every job is complete, they write a letter thanking their client for the recent business, and what a pleasure it was doing business with them. Typically, the letter is hand written, but certainly doesn’t have to be, as long as it is personalized. It is in this letter they reference their website, and ask for a testimonial. Yes, I said “ask”. Sometimes if you don’t ask, you won’t receive.

So, its simple. Back to the basics. If you want something, you just have to ask. No one, of course, except my husband can read my mind (that’s a joke of course). And your customers can’t read your mind. Ask them for a testimonial or referral. The worst that can happen, is you don’t get one from them. Remember, word of mouth is your best advertising. Use it to your business advantage!
