FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS SCREEN PRINTING?

Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil to receive a desired image. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A squeegee is moved across the screen, forcing ink into the mesh openings for transfer during the squeegee stroke. Basically, it is the process of using a stencil to apply ink onto a substrate, whether it be t-shirts, posters, stickers, vinyl, wood, or other material. Dynamic Designs screen prints on textiles, like t-shirts and sweatshirts.

WILL YOU SCREEN PRINT JUST ONE SHIRT?

No, we will not screen print just one shirt. Because of the process involved, one shirt is not economical to screen print. A minimum of 12 shirts is required for screen printing. However, we do have other applications, such as vinyl, (it looks similar) that is heat applied, and can be done with a quantity of only six items. Vinyl is also the only application that we allow customer supplied items – keeping in mind – we cannot guarantee customer supplied merchandise.

AM I CHARGED FOR SCREENS EACH TIME I REORDER?

Because of the fact we reuse our screens, you are charged a screen charge each time. On reorders though, the cost is half. Most of the time, because of our estimating system, you will not see the screen charge, as it is “in the cost of the shirt”.

IF I PROVIDE YOU WITH A JPEG, WILL I STILL BE CHARGED AN ARTWORK CHARGE?

Most of the time, there will always be an artwork charge with screen printing. To screen print, vector artwork is required, and colors must be separated, most people are not aware of how this is done. A jpeg is not vector artwork. An illustrator file would be an acceptable format. In addition to that, we set up our artwork on a special template for screen printing. In most cases at minimum, there is an artwork fee.
