Build Your Business Recipe Book: Document the Processes That Keep You Running
I’m sharing this information that I recently learned from a zoom meeting with Anna@affresearch.com. I think this is a great way to get started with processes in your business. Think about this question, What would happen if you couldn't come to work tomorrow?
Would your team know exactly what needs to be done, how to do it, and where to find the information they need? If the answer is “not really,” it may be time to start creating your Business Recipe Book.
Every business has processes. Some happen every day, others weekly or monthly. The problem is that many of those processes live inside someone's head. When that person is unavailable, things can slow down, mistakes can happen, and everyone starts asking, “How do we normally do this?”
Think of your business processes like recipes. A good recipe tells you what ingredients you need, the steps to follow, and what to watch for along the way.
Start with ONE process. It could be opening the business, processing an order, following up with a customer, running payroll, preparing an invoice, or posting to social media.
Write down the ingredients, who is responsible, each step, what could go wrong, and how the process could be improved.
Then have someone else follow your recipe. Did they understand it? If not, make adjustments.
One recipe becomes two. Two become ten. Eventually, you have a Recipe Book that helps train employees, create consistency, improve efficiency—and keep your business moving forward even when you're not there.
